Crane_Media_Touchscreen.54c1633636708WILLISTON, S.C. – August 19, 2015 – Crane Merchandising Systems, a Crane Co. company and the leading global manufacturer of innovative solutions for vending machines, cashless systems, software and wireless communications, today announced the launch of Intelligent Store™ for its Merchant MEDIA and BevMAX MEDIA machines.

Intelligent Store leverages the connectivity of the fully integrated MEDIA equipment portfolio.  This new powerful feature makes it easier for operators to manage machines remotely;   including over-the-air software updates, custom messaging and Retail Insights™ monitoring.

The dynamic over the air capabilities contained within the MEDIA platform are used to optimize the performance of the vending machines managed by the operator.

  • Operators can control the content of their MEDIA screens with custom messaging by advertising or promoting specific items to attract consumers and drive sales. Crane’s graphic team assists them in creating screen content that is then delivered remotely to requested machines.
  • Retail Insights reports provide robust machine level consumer data to help operators optimize the performance of their machines and ensure consumers have an engaging vending experience.

“Intelligent Store allows vending operators to fully leverage the power of a connected Media machine,” said Alan Hollis, President of Crane Merchandising Systems. “Our team works with each operator to deliver software updates and custom content over the air without costly visits to the machine. This new service continues Crane’s commitment to create value for customers through innovation, reliability, durability and reduced cost of ownership.”

Cashless Technology Vending Machine only 11% of Total Machine

It is hard to believe that with technology rating high in sales potential that only 11% of vending machines accept cashless payment.

I know we have come a long way in vending especially since the old .05, 10 & 25 cent days but 11% seems like we are

missing the mark on advancing vending.

Technology: Total machine base estimates for 2014 are 5,132,250. Of that number, only 564,548 machines accept a cashless payment form.

However, 57.6 percent of operators installed at least one credit/debit card reader last year, bringing the percentage of machines with this payment option to 11 percent.

th

cashLarge- and extra large-sized operators are 30 percent more likely to have high numbers of cashless payment acceptors installed on vending machines.

Additionally, 5.8 percent of operators added VMS this year, meaning 58 percent of operators now use a VMS. New services expansion: Only 23.4 percent of operators expanded into new services in 2014, compared to 31 percent the past two years. Drop shipping seemed to be more popular in 2014.

Case Study:  Cajun Vending11111

Read how going cashless has helped Cajun Vending
ring up more sales!

“About 95 percent of the sales increase we’re seeing is attributable to cashless. We’ve got some machines on which almost 80 percent of the sales are cashless. And it’s not just the increase in the number of sales, it’s also the fact that when people are using credit cards or their smartphones to pay, they’re less price sensitive. So, we’re selling more premium, higher priced items as well. We’re seeing machines that were doing $50 a week jump to $100.”

Pioneering Robotic Prescription Pill Vending Machine Hits the Market

Robotic vending machines are dispensing prescriptions as easy as 1-2-3. 3f2fd45edbb8803598ca2374ac7dbf37

Instead of going to  pharmacies, patients enter a security code that details their prescriptions and insurance coverage. A quick swipe of a debit or credit card, and the machine dispenses the medication in a prepackaged, labeled container. According to the company’s website InstyMeds offers the “safety and security of an ATM with the simplicity of a soda machine.”

“When you need an anti-diarrhea medication, you don’t want to wait an hour,” said InstyMeds CEO Brad Schraut. ‘If you’re sick, you’re in pain, you want that medication now.”

InstyMeds machines can hold up to 102 drugs for acute ailments, such as injuries and infections. They don’t dispense drugs for lingering conditions  such as  high-blood pressure or diabetes.meds

“We don’t do chronic or refill drugs,” said Schraut. “We believe patients should be seeing a pharmacist for all their refills. But in an ER, for people who hurt themselves that day, InstyMeds can give them their prescription safely and quickly.”

The machines offer more than 1,000 drugs commonly prescribed for acute illnesses and injuries, such as antibiotics, antihistamines and inhalers. Controlled medications such as oxycodone, known as Schedule II drugs, can also be dispensed, depending on a state’s laws.

To use InstyMeds, patients enter a code their physician has given them on the machine’s touch-screen monitor and then swipe their debit or credit card to pay. Patients pay the same amount as they would at a pharmacy. The machine then dispenses the medication in a prepackaged, labeled container.

The machines perform a triple bar-code safety check and allocate medications in about two minutes, said Emily Theisen, marketing manager for InstyMeds. The machines accept most private insurance plans and cash payments. Acceptance of Medicare and Medicaid prescriptions varies by state.
